You can send a yes or no astrology question, but a birth-chart reading rarely answers with a single word. A chart shows timing, tendencies and the themes of the period you are in, so the most useful reply explains what supports a choice and what to watch, which a slightly reworded question draws out far better than "will it happen?".

The Ask Me a Question service answers one personal question with a written insight aligned with your horoscope, and a yes or no question is a perfectly good place to start. If you are unsure how to phrase yours, send us your question through the enquiry form.

Can astrology answer a yes or no question at all?

It depends on which branch of astrology you mean. Vedic astrology has more than one way of approaching a question, and they treat yes or no very differently.

Prashna: a chart for the moment of asking

Prashna, sometimes called horary astrology in the West, casts a chart for the moment a question is asked or received. It is a specialist tradition with its own rules, and it is often used for direct questions about a specific matter. You may come across astrologers who use it for yes or no answers. If a one-word answer is what you are set on, ask any astrologer which method they use before you book, so your expectations match the reading you receive.

A birth-chart reading of your question

Ask Me a Question reads your question against your own horoscope: your birth chart, the houses that relate to the matter, and the planetary period, or dasha, you are moving through. That approach is excellent at showing why something feels the way it does and whether the timing leans towards action or patience. It is less suited to a bare yes or no, because your chart describes your life over years, not a single event on a single day.

Why a single word often leaves you more stuck

Imagine you ask whether to accept a new role and receive "yes". You still do not know what to be careful of, how to handle the first months, or why you hesitated. A reflective reply to the same question might say that your current period favours responsibility and steady growth, that the first months may test your patience, and that your hesitation echoes a habit of underestimating yourself. A one-word answer also gives you nothing to hold on to if circumstances change. A reflective reply, on the other hand, shows you the season you are in and leaves the decision with you, so you can act on it with understanding rather than simply following an instruction.

How to reword a yes or no question

Most yes or no questions contain a better one. Three simple swaps do most of the work.

Swap "will it happen" for "is this a supportive time"

"Will I get the promotion?" becomes "Does my current period support stepping into a bigger role, and what should I focus on?" You still learn which way the timing leans, but with reasons attached.

Swap "them" for "me"

"Does she still love me?" asks about someone else's private feelings, which your chart cannot reveal. "What is my chart showing me about what I need in this relationship now?" is answerable, and usually closer to what you want to know.

Swap "should I" for "what should I weigh"

"Should I move to Leeds?" becomes "I am considering moving to Leeds for work. What does my chart suggest I weigh before deciding?"

When your question is really two

"Should I leave my job and go travelling?" hides two decisions. Choose the one that matters most, or ask the part you have not already decided. The guide to readings for people who prefer practical questions shows how a grounded question still gets a concrete reply.

Yes or no questions a reading should not answer

Some yes or no questions should not be put to any astrologer, however they are worded. A responsible reading will not say yes or no to:

whether someone will become ill, recover, have an accident or die;
whether you will conceive or a pregnancy will go well;
whether an investment, business deal or court case will succeed;
whether another person is lying, cheating or will come back.

These need a doctor, solicitor, financial adviser or an honest conversation with the person concerned. Astrology offers guidance and reflection, never promised outcomes.

A written answer or a conversation?

For one clear question you want to reread and think over, a written reply works well, and you can come back to it when your mind is calmer. If your yes or no keeps branching into new questions as you think about it, a live conversation may suit you better: the 30-minute General Reading covers general guidance, a personal issue or a professional decision over Google Meet or WhatsApp. The guide to online consultation formats compares the options.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get any direction at all if I ask a yes or no question?

Yes. The reply will engage with your question honestly and say how your chart and current period bear on it. It simply gives reasons and context rather than a single word.

Is prashna more accurate than a birth-chart reading?

They answer different kinds of question. Prashna focuses on a specific matter at the moment of asking, while a birth-chart reading looks at your patterns and timing across a longer stretch of life.

Do I need my exact birth time?

The more accurate your date, time and place of birth, the more precisely the houses of your chart can be read, so give your birth time as exactly as you can.

Can I ask a yes or no question about timing?

You can ask whether a period looks supportive for something. If you need a specific auspicious date to begin, that is a separate dates question.

Write your yes or no question down, try one of the swaps above, and book Ask Me a Question when it reads clearly. If you would rather check the wording first, reach us through the enquiry form.
