New Year 2027 astrology predictions begin with a quieter opening than many expect: Jupiter is retrograde, Saturn is in its last months in Pisces and the nodes have only just changed sign. The year then turns on three moments: Saturn entering Aries in June, Jupiter returning to Leo in late June, and a total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027.

If you want the year read through your own chart from the outset, send us your details and ask what 2027 highlights for you.

How 2027 opens: the sky on New Year's Day

All positions here are Vedic (sidereal). On 1 January 2027 Jupiter sits in Leo, retrograde since mid-December 2026, and slips back into Cancer on 25 January (late on 24 January by UK clocks). Saturn is in Pisces, with Rahu in Capricorn and Ketu in Cancer, the nodes having changed sign in late 2026. The Sun is still in Sagittarius, the month of Dhanu kharmas that many families keep clear of ceremonies, until it enters Capricorn on 14 January 2027.

Put simply, the first weeks of the year favour review over launch. Jupiter does not turn direct until 13 April 2027, so January resolutions tend to work best as a return to unfinished plans rather than a clean break.

The transits that define 2027

A calendar year is shaped less by single dates than by where the slow planets sit. Ingress dates below follow Indian Standard Time, as panchangs do.

Saturn's move into Aries

Saturn enters Aries in the early hours of 3 June 2027, by UK and Indian clocks alike. Aries is Saturn's sign of debilitation, which describes a tension between Saturn's patience and Aries' urgency rather than any certain difficulty. Saturn turns retrograde in the second week of August, steps back into Pisces on 20 October 2027 and turns direct in late December, before returning to Aries in February 2028.

What Saturn in Aries tends to ask

Saturn in a fast, pioneering sign asks that hurried plans slow down and the groundwork is done properly. The autumn return to Pisces then offers a second look at anything begun too quickly in the summer, which is why the whole stretch rewards steadiness over haste.

Jupiter from Cancer to Leo and Virgo

After its January return to Cancer, its sign of exaltation, Jupiter moves into Leo on 26 June 2027 (shortly after midnight UK time) and into Virgo on 26 November 2027. The first half of the year carries its most generous, protective tone; the second turns towards leadership and visibility, then towards careful, practical refinement. Our 2027 horoscope for all twelve signs follows this sign by sign.

The eclipses of 2027

The year brings an annular solar eclipse on 6 February 2027 and a total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027, along with three penumbral lunar eclipses on 20 February, 18 July and 17 August. The August solar eclipse falls in sidereal Cancer, close to Ketu. In Vedic practice, eclipse days are kept for quiet reflection rather than new starts.

New Year 2027 astrology predictions: the shape of the year

Put together, these movements give 2027 two halves. The first, with Jupiter exalted and Saturn still in watery Pisces, leans reflective and consolidating, a good season for tending the foundations you already have. From June the tone sharpens: Saturn in Aries asks for disciplined action, and Jupiter's move into Leo and then Virgo turns growth from broad optimism towards something more visible and then more detailed. It is a year that rewards starting gently and building deliberately. If you set only one intention, let it be patience with a long project rather than a rush for a quick result.

Months to plan around in 2027

January to 13 April: Jupiter is retrograde, so these months reward revisiting existing plans over launching fresh ones.
9 February to 3 March, 10 June to 4 July and 7 to 28 October (UK dates): Mercury's three retrograde periods of 2027, traditionally a time to double-check paperwork, travel and agreements. Our Mercury retrograde guide explains how to work with them.
Early June: Saturn enters Aries, a genuine change of season for long-term plans.
Late June: Jupiter moves into Leo, shifting the emphasis towards self-expression.
2 August: the total solar eclipse, best kept as a day for reflection.
Mid-August to mid-September: Jupiter is combust in Leo, a natural pause before pushing on.
Late October and late November: Saturn slips back to Pisces and Jupiter enters Virgo, drawing the year towards review.

What these predictions are and are not

These are themes for reflection, not fixed promises. Astrology here is a way of noticing the season you are in and choosing how to meet it; it does not forecast health, money or any set event, and no honest reading would claim to. Keep your own judgement in charge and let the transits inform your timing rather than dictate your choices.

A year-ahead reading for your own chart

A general forecast becomes useful only once you count each transit as a house from your own Moon sign or ascendant: Saturn in your tenth house of work feels quite different from Saturn in your fourth house of home. A General Reading is a 30-minute session for exactly this, focused guidance on a personal issue or a decision you are weighing, read against where 2027's transits fall in your chart. Our note on a personal year-ahead session explains how a one-to-one reading goes further, and you can follow the year as it unfolds through our monthly astrological predictions.

Frequently asked questions

Is January 2027 a good time to start something new?

It can be, but the opening weeks lean towards review: Jupiter is retrograde until 13 April 2027 and the Sun stays in Sagittarius until 14 January. Many people use January to plan and choose a date for the launch itself later in the year.

Why does Saturn entering Aries matter so much?

Saturn spends about two and a half years in a sign, so its changes shape long stretches of life. The 2027 move also shifts Sade Sati: it begins for Taurus Moon signs and draws towards its close for Aquarius Moon signs, while Pisces and Aries Moon signs move into new phases.

Can you predict what will happen to me in 2027?

No, and it is worth being wary of anyone who claims to. A reading describes the themes and timing you are working with so you can make your own choices, rather than foretelling fixed events.
