Sharad Navratri 2027 in the UK begins with Ghatasthapana on Thursday 30 September 2027 and closes with Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on Saturday 9 October 2027, according to Drik Panchang's London calendar. For many UK families these ten days are a favoured time to start, buy or promise something important.

Navratri 2027 UK dates at a glance

These dates are calculated for London. Calendars made for India can occasionally place Ashtami or Navami a day differently, because tithis are judged against local sunrise, so check which calendar your mandir follows.

Day 1, Ghatasthapana (Pratipada): Thursday 30 September 2027
Days 2 to 7: Friday 1 October to Wednesday 6 October 2027
Durga Ashtami: Thursday 7 October 2027
Maha Navami: Friday 8 October 2027
Vijayadashami / Dussehra: Saturday 9 October 2027

Community garba and dandiya evenings in places such as Leicester, Wembley, Harrow and Birmingham tend to be arranged around weekends, and in 2027 those are 2 to 3 October and 9 to 10 October. If you are hoping to time a personal step during the festival, you can send us your question early, before diaries fill.

Why Navratri is treated as a window for beginnings

Navratri honours the Goddess in her nine forms, moving from Shailputri on the first day to Siddhidatri on the ninth. The symbolism runs from grounding to completion, which is why so many families feel it is a natural time to begin something they hope will grow.

It follows a quieter fortnight

Sharad Navratri comes directly after Pitru Paksha, the fortnight of ancestor remembrance during which many families hold back from new purchases and celebrations. The change of mood is part of the appeal: there is a sense of the year opening up again.

What families commonly time during the nine nights

Bringing home a car, a home shrine or new household items
Starting a course of study or a spiritual practice
Small family ceremonies and visits to elders
Beginning work on a new project or business plan

Customs vary. Some communities hold engagements during Navratri, while others keep the nine nights for worship and fasting and prefer to wait for Vijayadashami. Your family's own practice comes first.

Vijayadashami 2027: a self-auspicious day

Vijayadashami is one of the traditional sade teen muhurat, the three and a half days regarded as auspicious in themselves. The full days are Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya and Vijayadashami, with the half day falling just after Diwali. Because it is self-auspicious, many people start ventures, sign up for studies or hold a roka on Dussehra without searching for a separate muhurat.

Why it suits UK diaries in 2027

Vijayadashami falls on a Saturday this year, so families who cannot take time off midweek can still mark it properly. For an engagement or ring ceremony, that makes venue and travel planning much easier. Our article on engagement muhurat for a roka or ring ceremony explains what else to consider.

When a festival day still needs a personal check

A self-auspicious day is auspicious in a general sense. It does not erase a difficult transit in an individual chart, nor does it pick the best hour of the day. For a single family purchase, the festival day alone is often enough. For an engagement, a business launch or a move, it is worth checking the people involved.

How a personal muhurat refines a Navratri date

Think of the festival as the season and the muhurat as the moment within it. When we look at a Navratri plan, we consider several things together.

The tithi and nakshatra of each day

Not every one of the nine days carries the same flavour. The nakshatra the Moon occupies changes roughly daily, and some suit purchases while others suit agreements, travel or study. A day that looks perfect on a festival poster may carry a nakshatra that traditional texts reserve for quieter work.

Your own chart

We look at the Moon sign, the dasha period and current transits for the person or couple involved. A day that is lovely in general may sit awkwardly with one person's chart, and a neighbouring day may suit everyone better.

The hours of the day

Within a chosen day, periods such as Rahu Kaal are usually avoided and a supportive rising sign is preferred. These are calculated for your UK town, not copied from an Indian listing.

Our Magic of Lucky Dates and Times service brings these layers together. You tell us what you are planning and which Navratri days are practical, and we explain which options sit well with your charts and why. If the step is a home move, our piece on choosing an auspicious date for moving house in the UK covers chains and completion days.

Planning Navratri 2027 around UK life

The festival falls in early autumn term time, so school runs, work deadlines and evening garba all compete for the same hours. A few practical habits help.

Decide early which step matters most, so you are not trying to time five things in ten days.
Hold a provisional booking with your venue or dealer, then confirm once your preferred date is checked.
Agree with relatives abroad which calendar you are following, since UK and Indian lists do not always match.
Keep Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami clear of other commitments if your family fasts, hosts kanya puja or visits the mandir for the closing rituals of the festival.
