Mercury retrograde in February 2027 begins on 9 February at 17:36 UK time, when Mercury stations at 5°58′ Pisces, and ends on 3 March at 12:32, when it turns direct at 20°55′ Aquarius. With its shadow, the cycle stretches from 25 January to 23 March 2027, and it overlaps both a Mars retrograde and two eclipses.

If you are weighing a decision in that window, such as accepting an offer, launching something or moving home, the simplest first step is to ask one focused question. I will answer it in writing, aligned with your horoscope.

The February 2027 cycle, week by week

All times are GMT, which is UK clock time throughout this period.

25 January: the pre-shadow begins. Mercury, still moving quickly through Aquarius, crosses 20°55′, the degree where it will later turn direct. Topics that come up now often return in February; our guide to the Mercury retrograde shadow period explains why.
1 February: Mercury enters Pisces.
6 February: annular solar eclipse at 17°38′ Aquarius. It cannot be seen from the UK, but it marks the start of the year's first eclipse season.
9 February: Mercury stations retrograde at 17:36.
18 February: Mercury slips back into Aquarius. The Sun moves into Pisces the same evening.
19 to 20 February: Mars at opposition and a lunar eclipse. Mars, itself retrograde, lies opposite the Sun on the 19th. On the night of the 20th, the full Moon in Virgo passes through the outer part of Earth's shadow, visible across the UK between 21:12 and 01:13.
3 March: Mercury stations direct at 12:32.
18 March: Mercury re-enters Pisces, and on 23 March it clears the shadow.

Two signs, two moods

9 to 18 February: retrograde in Pisces

Pisces is imaginative, porous and compassionate, but rarely precise. In this stretch people tend to revisit dreams they had shelved, feel old emotions more keenly or realise that a plan rested on an assumption nobody said out loud. Valentine's Day falls here, so heartfelt conversations are welcome; just make sure you have understood each other before reading too much into a message.

18 February to 3 March: retrograde in Aquarius

Back in Aquarius, the focus moves to groups, networks, technology and the future you are building towards. Second thoughts about memberships, collaborations and long-range goals are common, along with the occasional tangle over devices or online accounts. It is a sensible fortnight to update passwords, tidy shared folders and review subscriptions.

When Mercury and Mars are retrograde together

Mars turned retrograde on 10 January 2027 and stays that way until 1 April, so for the whole of Mercury's February retrograde both the planet of thought and the planet of action are in review. Traditionally that combination favours finishing, repairing and reconsidering over launching. Mars brings impatience; Mercury brings second thoughts. Together they can feel like driving with the handbrake half on.

The eclipses add emphasis rather than danger. The new Moon eclipse of 6 February belongs to the Leo–Aquarius pairing that opened in 2026; a fortnight later, the Virgo full Moon brings the current run of Virgo–Pisces eclipses to a close. With one chapter beginning and another ending inside Mercury's retrograde, February 2027 is better for clarifying what you want than for announcing it.

A decision filter for Mercury retrograde in February 2027

Most people cannot put life on hold for the best part of two months, and they do not need to. Run any important choice through three questions first:

Is this a return to something already begun? Revisions, renewals and reunions sit naturally in a retrograde.
Could the start move to after 3 March, or ideally after 23 March, without real cost?
Has someone other than you checked the details?

Contracts and paperwork

Read the final version, not the draft you remember. Confirm names, dates and figures in writing, and keep a copy of every exchange. Our guide to signing a contract in a retrograde goes further.

Moves and travel

Allow extra time for keys, removals and connections, and confirm bookings a day ahead. If you are relocating, read our piece on moving house during Mercury retrograde first.

Launches and announcements

A quiet soft launch inside the window, with the public announcement after 3 March, often works well. A lucky dates and times consultation can find the most supportive moment for your own chart.

Reading February 2027 through your horoscope

In Vedic astrology this retrograde happens in sidereal Aquarius and Capricorn. Mercury stations at about 12 degrees of Aquarius, drops back into Capricorn on 23 February and turns direct at about 27 degrees of Capricorn. The houses those signs occupy in your chart show where the review is felt, whether that is work, friendships, partnership or home life. If Mercury rules your ascendant, as it does for Gemini and Virgo rising, or you are running a Mercury dasha, the theme is likely to feel more personal.
