The Mercury retrograde 2027 dates, in UK time, are 9 February to 3 March, 10 June to 4 July and 7 to 28 October 2027. Each cycle opens in a water sign and slips back into an air sign: Pisces into Aquarius, Cancer into Gemini, then Scorpio into Libra. Counting the shadows, Mercury's review cycles touch almost half the year.

If you already have a wedding, a signing or a house move pencilled in for one of these weeks, send us your question with the date involved and I will suggest the right reading to check it against your own horoscope before you change anything.

A year of water signs turning back into air

This pattern is worth noticing. In a water sign, Mercury thinks through feeling, memory and instinct. In an air sign, thinking turns to ideas, conversations and plans. So each 2027 retrograde tends to bring an emotional reaction first and a cooler, more detached rethink second.

Pisces to Aquarius in late winter

Hazy details, unspoken assumptions and half-remembered promises surface first. Then group plans, online life and long-range goals get their second look.

Cancer to Gemini in early summer

Family conversations, home arrangements and old memories lead. After 26 June, attention shifts to paperwork, short trips, siblings and the everyday flow of messages.

Scorpio to Libra in autumn

Private matters, trust and shared commitments come up. Once Mercury is back in Libra, agreements, partnerships and questions of fairness are reviewed before it moves on.

Tropical or sidereal: why Vedic calendars name other signs

Readings at Karmic Keran use Vedic astrology, which measures the planets against the sidereal zodiac. The stations happen at exactly the same moment in both systems, but the sign labels sit roughly 24 degrees earlier. In sidereal terms:

February: retrograde from Aquarius back into Capricorn, turning direct at about 27 degrees of Capricorn.
June to July: entirely within Gemini, from about 12 degrees back to 3 degrees.
October: from Libra back into Virgo, turning direct at about 25 degrees of Virgo.

Neither list is wrong. If a Vedic panchang disagrees with a magazine column, this is usually the reason.

How to plan around the three windows

Retrograde periods are not bans. The traditional advice is simply to give review, repair and return an advantage over brand-new starts, and to leave more margin for misunderstandings.

What suits a retrograde

Revising a CV, a business plan or a manuscript.
Finishing a project you set aside.
Reconnecting with former colleagues or old friends.
Backing up files and servicing devices.
Re-reading agreements before renewal.

Fitting the windows into a UK year

Each cycle lands in a different season, so the practical questions change as the year goes on. Life does not pause for Mercury, and a fixed date rarely needs to move.

February: before the spring push

Plans made over the new year often reach the launch stage in February. Where you can, use the retrograde for drafts, research and conversations, and save public starts until after 3 March, or after 23 March if you would rather have the shadow behind you too.

June: weddings and summer travel

The second cycle runs through the height of the wedding and early-holiday season. Confirm suppliers, venues and travel in writing, and if an agreement cannot wait, our guide to signing a contract during Mercury retrograde sets out the checks worth making.

October: moves and the clock change

Autumn is a busy time for house moves and new tenancies. This cycle ends on 28 October, three days before the clocks go back on 31 October 2027, so double-check the time of any handover or appointment booked across that weekend.

When you do have a choice, a lucky dates and times consultation looks for a window that suits your chart, rather than simply avoiding retrogrades.

What these dates mean for your own chart

A retrograde touches everyone, but not in the same place. The houses each cycle crosses in your chart, any planets near those degrees and the dasha you are running decide whether a window is background noise or a genuine review point. A General Reading gives thirty minutes online to look at exactly that, and suits anyone whose retrograde window coincides with one specific decision. For background, our Mercury retrograde page has more on the cycle itself, and the shadow period guide explains the weeks either side of each station.

Frequently asked questions

How many times is Mercury retrograde in 2027?

Three times: 9 February to 3 March, 10 June to 4 July, and 7 to 28 October 2027. Each lasts about three weeks, with shadow periods adding several weeks before and after.

Why do some websites list different start dates?

Stations are calculated for a single moment, then converted to local time. The February and June stations happen in the UK evening, which is already the next day in East Asia and Australia, so some calendars show 10 February or 11 June.

Is it bad luck to sign a contract during Mercury retrograde?

Not in itself. Astrologers advise extra care rather than refusal: check details, ask questions and avoid rushing. Many agreements signed in a retrograde work perfectly well.

Do the shadow periods matter as much as the retrograde?

They are milder. The pre-shadow often previews the issue and the post-shadow sees it resolved, so they are useful for preparation and follow-through, not for cancelling plans.
