A kundli matching detailed report should do more than print a score out of 36. It should show how each of the eight kootas was calculated, check doshas and their cancellations, and look at the parts of both horoscopes that describe partnership. This guide explains what belongs in a thorough report and how to read one.

Instant summary or detailed report: the real difference

Many online matching calculators produce a one-page summary: two names, a total and perhaps a coloured verdict. That is a calculation, not an interpretation. A detailed report, by contrast, explains why each number appeared, whether any rule softens it and what the rest of each chart adds. Think of the summary as the first line of a conversation and the detailed report as the conversation itself.

The distinction matters most when the summary looks discouraging. A total of 16 might include a zero for Bhakoot that classical rules would cancel, which changes the picture considerably, or it might reflect several smaller gaps across temperament and attraction. Those are very different situations, and only a detailed breakdown tells you which one you are facing.

What a kundli matching detailed report should include

Whether you are reading a report from a family astrologer in India or preparing for a session in the UK, these are the sections worth looking for.

1. The eight kootas, one by one

The Ashtakoota system gives a maximum of 36 points across eight factors:

Varna (1 point) – outlook and values
Vashya (2 points) – mutual influence
Tara (3 points) – the relationship between birth stars
Yoni (4 points) – instinctive and physical compatibility
Graha Maitri (5 points) – friendship between the Moon sign lords
Gana (6 points) – temperament
Bhakoot (7 points) – the relative positions of the two Moon signs
Nadi (8 points) – the classification of the birth nakshatras

A good report lists every koota with its score, not just the total. Our article on what a Guna Milan score really means explains each one more fully.

2. Doshas, with cancellations checked

Nadi, Bhakoot and Manglik dosha are the three most often raised in matching. Each has traditional exceptions. A report that flags a dosha without saying whether a cancellation was considered is incomplete. For Manglik specifically, see calm facts about Manglik dosha matching.

3. The 7th house and its lord

The 7th house describes committed partnership. A detailed report notes the sign on it, planets placed in it and the condition of its ruling planet in both charts.

4. The Navamsa (D9) chart

Traditionally consulted for marriage, the Navamsa refines what the main chart suggests. It depends on an accurate birth time, because the Navamsa ascendant can change within a quarter of an hour.

Why birth time accuracy shows up here first

If a report's Navamsa section seems to contradict everything else, check the birth time before anything. Minor errors affect the D9 much sooner than the main chart, which is why an honest report states how confident it is in the time used.

5. Venus, the Moon and planetary periods

Venus and the Moon describe affection and emotional needs. The current dashas (planetary periods) describe the chapter each person is living through, which often explains why a couple feels the way they do at the moment.

Red flags in a matching report

Be cautious if a report:

gives a verdict such as "do not marry" based on the total alone
makes predictions about health, children, accidents or money
insists that one particular ritual is the only way forward
does not show which birth details were used
gives no room for questions afterwards

Astrology at its best offers guidance and reflection. A report that frightens rather than explains is not doing its job.

Turning a report into a conversation

Paper only goes so far. Couples and parents often have follow-up questions the moment they finish reading: what does this mean for us, should we worry about that dosha, why does one site disagree with another?

That is where a Compatibility Reading comes in. In a 30-minute online session by Google Meet or WhatsApp, both horoscopes are examined together and talked through in plain English: the strengths of the match, the challenges to be aware of, and how the two of you communicate. You can bring an existing report, or start from your birth details alone. For a single focused query, Ask Me a Question gives a written answer aligned with your horoscope instead.

Preparing for your reading

To make the most of the time, gather:

both partners' dates, exact times and places of birth
any reports or horoscopes the families have already obtained
a short list of the questions that matter most to you, and to your parents
a note of which tradition your family follows, for example North Indian Guna Milan or South Indian porutham

Whether you are in Wembley, Leicester, Glasgow or further afield, it helps to agree beforehand who will join the call and how the findings will be shared with relatives abroad.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a detailed kundli matching report be?

Length matters less than completeness. A good report covers all eight kootas, the main doshas and cancellations, the 7th house, the Navamsa and the current planetary periods, and explains each in language you can follow.

Can you explain a report prepared by another astrologer?

Yes. Bring it to your reading. The charts will be calculated afresh so any differences in method or birth data can be identified and explained.

Is a written report or a live reading better?

A written report is easy to share; a live session lets you ask questions as they arise. The Compatibility Reading is a live conversation, and if you would prefer one focused answer in writing, Ask Me a Question is the better fit.

When you are ready, send your question through the enquiry form with both partners' birth details and any report you already hold, or book a Compatibility Reading directly. You will leave with a clearer understanding of the match and how to discuss it with the people closest to you.
