In 2027 Jupiter moves through three signs of the sidereal zodiac: it opens the year retrograde in Leo, spends most of the first half in Cancer, its sign of exaltation, returns to Leo in late June and reaches Virgo in late November. Below are the dates and what the Jupiter transit of 2027 means for your sign, house by house.

If you would rather see it mapped onto your own chart, send us your birth details and ask where Jupiter lands for you this year.

Jupiter's 2027 dates in the Vedic zodiac

All positions here are sidereal (Lahiri), the zodiac used in Vedic astrology. Dates follow Indian Standard Time, as Indian panchangs do; where a change falls near midnight, UK clocks may show the previous evening.

1 January 2027: Jupiter is in Leo, which it entered on 31 October 2026, and has been retrograde since mid-December 2026.
25 January 2027: still retrograde, it slips back into Cancer (late on 24 January by UK clocks).
13 April 2027: Jupiter turns direct in Cancer.
26 June 2027: it re-enters Leo (shortly after midnight by UK clocks).
Mid-August to mid-September 2027: Jupiter is combust, too close to the Sun to be seen, while in Leo.
26 November 2027: it enters Virgo, where it ends the year.

What the Jupiter transit of 2027 means for your sign

In Jyotish, Jupiter's gochar is read from your Moon sign: count your Moon sign as the first house and see which house Jupiter occupies. Classical texts treat the second, fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh from the Moon as Jupiter's most supportive positions, and the rest as times for patience and steadier effort. Each line starts from 25 January, when Jupiter is back in Cancer; the first weeks of January still carry its late-2026 Leo placement. Read the lines as themes for reflection, not fixed outcomes.

Aries Moon: fourth house (home and inner contentment) until late June, then the fifth (creativity, study and joy), a classically favoured position, and the sixth (daily work and routines) from late November.
Taurus Moon: third house (effort, courage and communication), then the fourth (home and family), then the fifth from late November, when ideas and learning come forward.
Gemini Moon: second house (family, speech and what you value) for the first half, then the third, then the fourth as attention turns homewards.
Cancer Moon: Jupiter crosses your first house, exalted in your own sign, then moves into your second in late June and your third in late November.
Leo Moon: twelfth house (rest, retreat and distant places) until late June, then Jupiter returns to your first house before reaching your second in late November.
Virgo Moon: eleventh house (friendships, networks and long-held hopes), then the twelfth, then your own sign from late November, opening a new twelve-year cycle.
Libra Moon: tenth house (career and public role), then the eleventh from late June, then the twelfth, a quieter, more inward close to the year.
Scorpio Moon: ninth house (teachers, faith and higher learning), then the tenth, then the eleventh, so the emphasis moves from meaning towards work and community.
Sagittarius Moon: eighth house (change and what lies beneath the surface) until late June, then the ninth, then the tenth; Jupiter also rules your Moon sign.
Capricorn Moon: seventh house (partnerships and agreements), then the eighth, then the ninth from late November, a reflective, study-minded finish.
Aquarius Moon: sixth house (routines, service and problem-solving), then the seventh from late June, bringing partnerships forward, then the eighth.
Pisces Moon: fifth house (creativity and learning), then the sixth, then the seventh from late November; Jupiter rules your Moon sign, so its movements feel personal.

Reading the transit beyond your Moon sign

Jupiter's aspects

Jupiter casts full aspects to the fifth, seventh and ninth signs from wherever it sits. From Cancer it looks towards Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces; from Leo towards Sagittarius, Aquarius and Aries; from Virgo towards Capricorn, Pisces and Taurus. A planet or ascendant in those signs in your chart feels Jupiter's touch even when the transit is elsewhere.

The ascendant and your dasha

Counting from the ascendant

Counting houses from the ascendant as well as the Moon gives a second, often more practical layer: the Moon describes how a transit feels, the ascendant where it shows up in daily life.

Why your dasha sets the volume

Your current dasha decides how loudly any transit is felt. Someone running a Jupiter period tends to notice its 2027 movements more keenly than someone in a Saturn or Rahu period. Our guide to Vimshottari dasha and life chapters explains how those periods work.

If you do not know your Moon sign

The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a half days, so your Moon sign depends on your birth time and place as well as the date, and it is often different from the Sun sign used in magazine columns. Our explainer on finding your rashi shows why, and a reading can establish it before tracing Jupiter's path through your houses.

What a transit can and cannot tell you

A transit describes a climate, not a destiny. Jupiter in a favoured house opens doors, but it does not walk through them for you, and a demanding placement is an invitation to prepare rather than a warning. The late-summer combustion is read as a quieter, preparatory phase, not a setback. Astrology here is a mirror for reflection and planning, never a promise about health, money or any single result.

Making 2027 your own with a reading

Frequently asked questions

Why do Western horoscopes give different Jupiter signs?

Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, which currently sits about 24 degrees ahead of the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology. Tropical Jupiter spends 2027 in Leo and then Virgo, so compare like with like before combining two sources.

Should I read the transit from my Sun sign or Moon sign?

In Jyotish the Moon sign is the usual reference point, with the ascendant as a second layer. Reading from the Sun sign alone gives only a very general picture.

Is Jupiter being retrograde at the start of 2027 a bad sign?

No. A retrograde Jupiter is traditionally read as turning its attention inward, so January to mid-April 2027 suits review, study and finishing what is already under way before Jupiter turns direct on 13 April.
