Is 2027 a good year for marriage? In Vedic astrology, no year is good or bad for everyone. 2027 has helpful collective features, with Jupiter moving between Cancer and Leo and no Venus retrograde. The main pause comes in late summer, when Venus and Jupiter are both combust. Whether it suits you depends on your own charts and the muhurat chosen.

Is 2027 a good year for marriage? How a year is judged

When families ask whether a year is auspicious for weddings, they are really asking three questions at once. First, what is happening in the sky for everyone: the slow planets, eclipses and combustion periods that panchangs use to rule whole weeks in or out. Second, what is happening in the couple's own charts, meaning their dashas and the transits over their Moon signs and 7th houses. Third, which day and time, within the options left, gives the ceremony the strongest footing. A year-level answer covers only the first, which is why it can never be the whole story.

If you already have a shortlist of 2027 dates, the Magic of Lucky Dates and Times service can check them against both charts.

The collective sky of 2027

Jupiter between Cancer and Leo

Jupiter (Guru) is the planet most associated with marriage blessings. In the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology, it enters Leo on 31 October 2026, slips back into Cancer, its sign of exaltation, in late January 2027 while retrograde, returns to Leo around 26 June 2027 and moves on to Virgo around 26 November 2027 (Lahiri calculations). Cancer and Leo are both comfortable signs for Jupiter, which gives the year a generally supportive backdrop in traditional terms.

No Venus retrograde in 2027

Venus, the karaka of love and marriage, turns retrograde roughly every nineteen months. The 2026 retrograde runs from 3 October to 14 November 2026 (UK time), and the next begins in May 2028, so 2027 has none. Couples who prefer to avoid a Venus retrograde for their wedding have the whole year to work with on that count.

The late-summer combustion window

A planet close to the Sun is called combust (asta) and is treated as weakened. Venus reaches superior conjunction with the Sun on 12 August 2027, and Jupiter's conjunction with the Sun follows on 31 August 2027. Traditional wedding calendars therefore set aside part of the summer for Shukra asta and Guru asta. Exact days vary between panchangs, so treat July to mid-September 2027 as a period to check carefully. The window also overlaps Chaturmas, when many families avoid weddings anyway.

Eclipses on 6 February and 2 August 2027

2027 brings an annular solar eclipse on 6 February and a total solar eclipse on 2 August, along with penumbral lunar eclipses on 20 February, 18 July and 17 August. Muhurta tradition steers ceremonies away from eclipse days and the days around them, although many panchangs give little or no weight to faint penumbral lunar eclipses, so check how your own tradition treats each one.

Saturn's move into Aries

In the sidereal zodiac, Saturn leaves Pisces for Aries, its sign of debilitation, on 3 June 2027 and slips back into Pisces on 20 October 2027, before settling in Aries in February 2028. For Pisces, Aries and Taurus Moon signs, this shift continues or begins Sade Sati, so families may want a closer look at timing. Sade Sati alone is not a reason to avoid marriage; our calm guide to Sade Sati explains why.

Your own charts matter more than the calendar

Dashas

The planetary periods a couple are running often say more about readiness for marriage than any transit. Periods connected with the 7th house, its lord or Venus are the ones traditionally watched.

Guru bala for the bride

Many North Indian families check Jupiter's transit from the bride's Moon sign, a rule known as Guru bala. Jupiter in the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th or 11th sign from the Moon is traditionally favourable. While Jupiter is in Cancer, from late January to late June 2027, that applies to Gemini, Pisces, Capricorn, Scorpio and Virgo Moons. While it is in Leo, it applies to Cancer, Aries, Aquarius, Sagittarius and Libra Moons. Practice varies, and many families weigh the groom's Sun and both partners' Moon strength too, so treat it as one input rather than a ruling.

From a good year to a good date

What a wedding muhurat weighs

Once the year looks workable, the muhurat narrows it to a day and a time. Tradition weighs the tithi (lunar day), the nakshatra, the weekday and the rising sign at the moment of the ceremony. The classical marriage nakshatras are Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada and Revati. Combustion and eclipses are ruled out, and the result is checked against both partners' charts.

Fitting a muhurat around a UK booking

If the venue date is already fixed

Popular venues often book well ahead, especially for summer Saturdays. If your date is already set, an auspicious time within that day, for the pheras or the key ritual, can still be chosen. Our article on Hindu wedding muhurat in the UK covers how families balance venue, relatives and charts.

Planning a 2027 wedding: a practical order

Gather both partners' birth dates, times and places.
Agree with family which traditions matter most, such as Guru bala, Chaturmas or a particular month.
Set aside the late-summer combustion window, the eclipse dates and, if your family observes them, Chaturmas and Kharmas (the months when the Sun is in Sagittarius or Pisces) before approaching venues.
Ask for two or three candidate dates, then check venue availability against them.
Choose the ceremony time within the day once the date is confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Are there no wedding dates at all in late summer 2027?

Traditional Hindu calendars largely avoid the weeks when Venus and Jupiter are combust, but families and regions differ. If a summer date matters to you, it can be examined individually.

Can we marry in 2027 if one of us is in Sade Sati?

Yes. Sade Sati asks for maturity and realism; it doesn't forbid marriage. The couple's dashas and compatibility carry more weight.

Does Western astrology see 2027 the same way?

Western astrologers also note the absence of a Venus retrograde, but they use the tropical zodiac, so Jupiter's sign positions differ from the Vedic ones given here.

How early should we ask for a muhurat?

Ideally before you visit venues, so the dates you shortlist are already sound from an astrological point of view.

To find dates that fit your own charts, send us your question with both partners' birth details and any months you're considering. We'll reply to arrange a Lucky Dates and Times consultation that looks at 2027 through your charts, not just the calendar.
