A feng shui consultant in Manchester doesn't have to stand in your hallway to read it. Your bagua, the nine-area map at the heart of feng shui, can be laid over an accurate floor plan online. Karmic Keran's Energy at Home session does exactly that, combining feng shui with your home's horoscope and Vastu Shastra in one conversation.

What a remote feng shui consultant in Manchester looks at

Feng shui is concerned with how qi, or life energy, moves through a space, and how the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) are balanced within it. In practice, that means studying the front door as the "mouth" of the home, the positions of the bed, desk and hob, the routes people take between rooms, and any areas that feel stuck or rushed.

All of this can be read from a reasonable plan and a handful of photos. Clutter, light and the view from each doorway show up clearly in pictures, and the plan does the rest. Light matters too: a north-facing back room in a terrace can feel dim through a Manchester winter, and because feng shui links light with the fire element, lamp placement and warmer tones often feature in the suggestions. How your bagua is mapped from a floor plan

Two ways to orient the map

Schools differ here. Compass-based, or classical, feng shui aligns the bagua with compass directions, so the north area sits in the actual north of the home. The western "three-door" approach aligns it with the wall containing the front door instead. Both are established traditions, and a good consultant tells you which is in use and why.

Preparing your plan

Marking north and the door

Take a phone compass reading at the front door facing out, away from radiators and appliances, and mark it on the plan along with the exact position of the door itself.

Showing the awkward bits

Few homes are tidy rectangles. Outrigger kitchens, bay windows and L-shaped flats create extensions and missing areas, and how these are treated changes the reading. Draw them in, even roughly. Our guide to the bagua map for irregular UK floor plans shows how such shapes are handled.

Manchester layouts and their feng shui questions

Terraces where the stairs face the door

Some older terraces open straight onto a staircase. In feng shui, stairs facing the front door are said to send energy rushing upwards before it reaches the living space. A runner, a warm light at the foot of the stairs or a plant on the landing can slow that line without any building work.

Northern Quarter and Ancoats lofts

Exposed beams are part of a loft's character, but feng shui traditionally discourages sleeping or working directly beneath one, as it is felt to press down on whoever is below. Moving the bed out from under the beam, or softening it with fabric or uplighting, is the usual response.

Canal-side and Salford Quays apartments

Water carries real weight in feng shui. Whether a view over a canal or the quays supports a home depends on where it sits in relation to your door and seating, which is exactly what a plan reading can assess.

Rented rooms and house shares

When you control only one room, the bedroom becomes the whole project: the bed in the commanding position with a clear view of the door, and a steady mix of elements. Our bedroom layout guide explains the commanding position in detail.

Feng shui with astrology and Vastu: what the session adds

The Energy at Home / New Home session lasts 45 minutes and draws on several traditions at once: the home's horoscope, Vedic astrology for the people who live there, and Vastu Shastra alongside feng shui. Where the two space traditions agree, on a welcoming entrance, an uncluttered centre and a well-supported bed, suggestions are straightforward. Where they differ, the people living in the home, and the periods their charts are moving through, help decide which emphasis suits the household.

For an office, shop or studio rather than a home, the Energy at Workplace session applies the same method to a working space.

After your Manchester session

You leave with a short, prioritised list rather than a long inventory of faults. Changes usually start with the entrance and the bedroom, because those affect every day, and then move on to living areas and smaller adjustments.

Change a few things at a time. It's easier to notice how a room feels when you haven't rearranged the whole flat in one weekend.
Give it a few weeks. Live with an arrangement through ordinary routines before judging it.
Take before photos. A quick picture of each room before you start makes it easier to see what has actually changed.
Revisit when life shifts. A new baby, a home office or a lodger changes how a space is used, and the plan can be looked at again.

A consultation won't promise wealth, romance or health from a well-placed object. Its aim is a home that feels more ordered, restful and yours.

Frequently asked questions

Is a remote feng shui consultation as accurate as a visit?

For layout, orientation and flow, a plan-based reading works well, as long as the plan is reasonably accurate and north is marked correctly. Photos fill in details such as light, colour and clutter.

Do I need to buy special objects?

No. Most suggestions use what you already own: moving furniture, adjusting lighting, clearing particular areas. Anything added is chosen for a reason, not as a charm.

Can I book before moving into a new home?

Yes, and it's an ideal time, because nothing has been placed yet and every decision is still open.

How do I decide whether a consultant suits me?

Ask which school they follow, how they work with floor plans and what they won't claim. Our guide on choosing a feng shui consultant in the UK lists useful questions.

When you're ready, send your floor plan and a few photos through our enquiry form, with a line about the room that bothers you most. We'll reply to arrange your Energy at Home session and confirm what else to prepare.
