There are five eclipses in 2027: an annular solar eclipse on 6 February, a penumbral lunar eclipse on 20 February, a very faint penumbral lunar eclipse on 18 July, a total solar eclipse on 2 August and a penumbral lunar eclipse on 17 August. From the UK, only two of them can actually be seen: 20 February and 2 August.

If one of these dates lands on a birthday, an anniversary or a decision you are facing, send us your question and I will suggest the reading that shows where it falls in your chart.

The 2027 eclipse calendar

UK clock times are given, with signs in the tropical zodiac used by most horoscope columns.

6 February, annular solar eclipse. Greatest at 15:59 GMT, with the Sun and Moon at 17°38′ Aquarius. A ring of sunlight is visible along a track from Chile and Argentina across the South Atlantic to the West African coast. Not visible from the UK.
20 February, penumbral lunar eclipse. From 21:12 to 01:13 GMT, greatest at 23:13. The full Moon sits at 2° Virgo. Visible across the whole of the UK, weather permitting.
18 July, penumbral lunar eclipse. Around 17:00 BST, with the Moon in late Capricorn. The Moon barely grazes Earth's outer shadow, and it is below the UK horizon in any case.
2 August, total solar eclipse. Sun and Moon at 9°55′ Leo. Total along a path from southern Spain to Egypt and Yemen; partial from the UK between about 09:00 and 11:00 BST.
17 August, penumbral lunar eclipse. Greatest at 08:14 BST, full Moon at 24° Aquarius. Not visible from the UK, because the Moon has already set.

There is no total or partial lunar eclipse anywhere in 2027. All three lunar eclipses are penumbral, the subtlest kind.

Which eclipses in 2027 you can see from the UK

20 February: a gentle shading

A penumbral eclipse dims the Moon only slightly, so there is no red blood moon to look for. Step outside around 23:00, when one edge of the Moon may look faintly smoky compared with the other. That night Mars, at its brightest for the year, shines not far from the Moon.

2 August: a deep partial solar eclipse

Across the morning the Moon takes a substantial bite out of the Sun, most deeply in the south-west of England and least in Shetland. Look only through certified eclipse glasses or a pinhole projector; never look at the Sun directly.

The three you will not see

The February annular eclipse's shadow never reaches Britain, and the July and August lunar eclipses happen while the Moon is below the UK horizon. Astrologically they still count, because an eclipse is defined by the alignment of the Sun, Moon and nodes, not by who can see it.

Two eclipse seasons, two sets of questions

Eclipses come in seasons, roughly six months apart, when new and full moons fall close to the lunar nodes.

February 2027: finishing and seeding

The 6 February solar eclipse in Aquarius continues the Leo–Aquarius series that began in 2026. Two weeks later, the 20 February lunar eclipse in Virgo is the final one in the current Virgo–Pisces series. One eclipse plants, the other completes.

Summer 2027: three eclipses in a month

Between 18 July and 17 August there are three eclipses. The centrepiece is the 2 August total solar eclipse in Leo, close to the south node, which is traditionally read as a release of outdated roles and stories. The 17 August lunar eclipse in Aquarius then brings the focus back to friendship, groups and long-term hopes.

Which part of my identity am I ready to stop defending?

How Vedic astrology reads the 2027 eclipses

In the sidereal zodiac used in Vedic astrology, Rahu moves through Capricorn and Ketu through Cancer for the whole of 2027. As a result, four of the five eclipses fall on the Cancer–Capricorn axis: the February solar eclipse at about 23 degrees of Capricorn, the August solar eclipse at about 16 degrees of Cancer, and the July and August lunar eclipses, the latter right on the Capricorn–Aquarius boundary. A Vedic reading looks at the houses this axis occupies from your ascendant and Moon, whether an eclipse touches your birth nakshatra, and which dasha you are running.

Traditional muhurta practice also avoids eclipse days for auspicious beginnings such as weddings, griha pravesh and business openings. If you are choosing dates in 2027, a lucky dates and times consultation takes the eclipses into account, and our guide to the best day to get married in 2027 covers wedding timing.

When an eclipse deserves a personal look

Most eclipses pass as background. One deserves attention when it falls within a few degrees of your Sun, Moon, ascendant or a planet, lands in a house linked to a live decision, or coincides with a change of dasha. A General Reading gives thirty minutes online to check the 2027 eclipse dates against your chart and talk through one issue properly. For the bigger picture, our article on the Rahu–Ketu axis explains why the nodes matter so much.

Frequently asked questions

How many eclipses are there in 2027?

Five: two solar eclipses (6 February annular, 2 August total) and three penumbral lunar eclipses (20 February, 18 July and 17 August).

Is there a lunar eclipse visible from the UK in 2027?

Yes, the penumbral eclipse on the night of 20 February 2027, though it is subtle. The next eclipse that dips into Earth's darker shadow comes on the morning of 12 January 2028, when a small partial lunar eclipse is visible from the UK.

Which 2027 eclipse matters most astrologically?

The 2 August total solar eclipse is the most prominent. For you personally, the most important one is whichever falls closest to a sensitive point in your own chart.

Should I avoid making plans on eclipse days?

Many people prefer not to begin important ventures on the day itself, in line with tradition. There is no need to fear the surrounding weeks; simply plan with awareness.
