A birth chart reading in London works through your Vedic chart one layer at a time: the ascendant, the Moon and its nakshatra, the twelve houses, the planetary periods called dashas and, where useful, the navamsa. Each layer answers a different kind of question, so knowing what they show helps you get far more from the session.

If you already have a question in mind, tell me about it through the enquiry form and I will suggest which reading suits it best.

The layers of a birth chart reading in London

A Vedic chart, or kundli, is calculated for the moment and place you were born, using the sidereal zodiac that Indian astrology has always followed. On paper it can look like a crowded grid of symbols. In a reading it is taken apart in a sensible order, so that each piece makes sense before the next is added.

The ascendant, or lagna

The ascendant is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. It sets the framework for the whole chart, because it decides which sign falls in each of the twelve houses. The signs rise in turn through the day, each taking roughly two hours on average, which is why an accurate birth time matters so much. The lagna describes your temperament and the way you meet the world.

The Moon sign and nakshatra

Vedic astrology gives the Moon a central place. Your Moon sign, or rashi, speaks to your emotional nature and the way you handle change, while your birth nakshatra adds finer detail. There are twenty-seven nakshatras, or lunar mansions, each spanning thirteen degrees and twenty minutes of the zodiac, and the one holding your Moon also sets the starting point of your dasha sequence.

The twelve houses

Each house relates to an area of life: the tenth to career and public standing, the seventh to partnership, the fourth to home and inner security, the fifth to creativity and learning, and so on. A reading looks at the signs and planets occupying the houses that bear on your question, and at the condition of each house's ruling planet.

Planets in conversation

Planets are never read in isolation. Their aspects, called drishti, and the combinations known as yogas show how different parts of your life support or pull against each other. This is usually where a chart stops sounding like a list of placements and starts to sound like a description of a real person.

Dashas: the timing layer

The Vimshottari dasha system divides life into chapters ruled by different planets. Knowing which chapter and sub-period you are in gives context to the year you are having, and to the questions you are asking now.

The navamsa

The navamsa, or D9, is a divisional chart that splits each sign into nine parts. It is traditionally read for partnership and for the underlying strength of each planet. If you would like to understand it before your session, our guide to the navamsa chart explains how it sits alongside the main chart.

Your chart belongs to your birthplace, not your postcode

London is home to people born all over the world, and your chart is always drawn for where you were born, whether that was Lewisham, Leicester or Ludhiana, not for where you live now. Moving to the capital does not change it. What a reading does is relate that birth chart to the life you are living here, through your current dasha and the planets moving overhead.

The clock convention in force at your birth matters too. The chart is calculated in universal time, so the time on your record has to be converted correctly. In the UK, for example, clocks were kept an hour ahead throughout the year from 1968 to 1971, during the British Standard Time experiment. If you were born abroad, the local time zone and any daylight saving in use that year are taken into account in the same way.

Finding your birth time

In England and Wales, a standard birth certificate usually records the time of birth only for twins and other multiple births, while Scottish certificates normally include it. If yours does not, a hospital record, a parent's notes or a family kundli prepared at the time may hold it. When the time is uncertain, say so, and I will be clear about which parts of the reading depend on it.

Which reading fits the question you are bringing

Not every layer is needed for every question, and the session length reflects that. A General Reading is thirty minutes of guidance on a personal issue or professional decision, concentrating on the ascendant, the relevant houses and your current period. An In-Depth Reading runs for sixty minutes and leaves room for the fuller picture, including the navamsa and how your coming chapters may unfold across career, relationships and personal growth.

If you would rather not meet live, Ask Me a Question gives a written insight on one personal question, aligned with your horoscope. Live sessions take place online over Google Meet or WhatsApp, so it makes no difference whether you are in Croydon, Camden or commuting in from the Home Counties. Our note on online sessions in London compares that with visiting an astrologer in person.

What a reading will and will not tell you

A birth chart reading describes tendencies, strengths and timing. It can help you understand why a stretch of life has felt the way it has, and what kind of chapter may follow. It does not fix outcomes, make decisions for you, or offer predictions about health, money or other people's choices. Astrology here is a tool for reflection: the decisions, and the responsibility for them, stay with you.

That framing also helps you prepare. Questions such as "What should I understand about this period at work?" or "Which strengths can I lean on in this relationship?" give the chart something to work with. "Will this definitely happen?" is a question no honest reading can answer.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know astrology before a birth chart reading?

No. Everything is explained in plain English as we go, and you can ask about any term that comes up. Knowing the layers above simply makes it easier to follow along.

Is a Vedic chart different from one on a Western astrology website?

Yes. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which currently sits about twenty-four degrees behind the tropical zodiac used in most Western astrology, so many placements fall in the previous sign. It also gives more weight to the Moon and the dashas.

Can I bring a kundli that was made for me as a child?

Yes. Send a copy with your birth details and it can be checked against a freshly calculated chart and read alongside it.

Can the navamsa be read without a birth time?

Not reliably. The navamsa ascendant changes every few minutes, so it needs an accurate time. Without one, the reading concentrates on the layers least sensitive to it, such as the Moon sign.

When you are ready, send your date, time and place of birth with the question on your mind. We will arrange your birth chart reading online at a time that suits you, and begin with the layer of your chart that speaks to that question most directly.
