When you ask an astrologer about a decision, the most useful first step is working out what kind of question you have. Are you asking whether to do something, when to do it, or how to approach it? Each is read differently in Vedic astrology, and naming yours turns a knot of worry into one clear question.

If you already know the choice in front of you, the Ask Me a Question service gives you a written insight on one personal question, aligned with your horoscope. Not sure it is the right fit? Send us your question first through the enquiry form.

Three kinds of decision question

Most decisions people bring to a reading fall into one of three shapes. Spotting yours saves you from asking a "whether" question when what you really want to know is "when".

Whether: should I take this step at all?

This is the classic crossroads: accept the role or stay, start the course or wait, commit to a relationship or step back. The reading looks at whether the themes active in your chart support the direction you are leaning towards, and what might be driving any hesitation.

When: the step is decided, but the timing is not

Perhaps you know you will change careers or start a business, but not whether to do it now or next year. A "when" question focuses on the period you are in and the one approaching. If you need a specific day and hour to begin something, that is muhurta, the Vedic practice of choosing an auspicious time, and it has its own service.

How: the step is happening either way

Some decisions are already in motion. A transfer has been confirmed, a family move agreed. Then the helpful question is how to meet it: "This change is happening. What does my chart suggest I lean on, and what should I watch in myself?"

What an astrologer looks at when you ask about a decision

A decision question is not answered from a single placement. Several layers are read together.

The area of life the decision belongs to

Each of the twelve houses of the chart governs an area of life. Career decisions draw on the 10th house, home and property on the 4th, partnerships and contracts with others on the 7th, and higher study and long journeys on the 9th. Telling the astrologer which area your choice belongs to points the reading at the right houses.

The period you are moving through

Vimshottari dasha divides life into planetary periods, each with its own sub-periods. The planet ruling your current period colours what feels pressing and what tends to come easily. The guide to antardasha sub-periods explains how these layers work.

When a period is about to change

If a new main period or sub-period is close, it is worth mentioning your deadline. A choice made just before a change of period can feel different from one made just after, and knowing your window lets the reply take that into account.

What is moving in the sky now

Transits, known as gochar, show where the slow-moving planets such as Saturn and Jupiter are passing relative to your chart, traditionally counted from your Moon sign. They add a second layer of timing on top of your dasha.

Writing your decision as one question

Here is how a few common decisions look before and after they are shaped into a single question:

Before: "Is my career going to improve?" After: "I have been offered a promotion that means managing my former peers. Does my current period support stepping into leadership, and what should I be mindful of?"
Before: "Should I do something different with my life?" After: "I am considering retraining as a teacher. Is this a supportive time in my chart to begin a long commitment to study?"
Before: "What should I do about my sister's business idea?" After: "My sister has asked me to become her business partner. What does my chart suggest about entering a partnership at this stage?"

Notice that each "after" names the actual choice, the area of life, and puts you at its centre.

Decisions a reading should not be asked to make

Astrology offers reflection and guidance, so some decisions are better taken to someone else. A reading will not replace a doctor, solicitor, financial adviser or accountant, and it should not be used to choose investments, settle a legal dispute or decide on medical treatment. Nor can it decide for another person or promise that a chosen path will succeed. What it can do is help you understand your own timing and tendencies so the decision you make is a considered one.

Choosing the right format for your decision

For one clear decision you want to think over slowly, Ask Me a Question suits well: you send one question and receive a written reply you can reread as you weigh things up.

If the decision is tangled with several others, or you would rather talk it through, the 30-minute General Reading covers general guidance, a personal issue or a professional decision in a live session over Google Meet or WhatsApp. Once you have decided and need a date to begin, sign or launch, Magic of Lucky Dates & Times looks for an auspicious date and time for that start.

Frequently asked questions

Can an astrologer make the decision for me?

No. A good reading helps you see your timing, motivations and blind spots more clearly, but the decision remains yours. That is what makes it something you can stand behind later.

What should I include with my question?

Your date, time and place of birth as accurately as you know them, the decision in a sentence or two, which area of life it belongs to, and any deadline you are working to.

I am weighing two options. Can I ask about both?

Yes, if they are two sides of one choice, such as staying or leaving. Frame it as a single either-or question rather than two separate questions.

Is "when" or "whether" the better question to ask?

Ask the one you genuinely do not know the answer to. If you have already decided and only the timing is open, a "when" question will serve you far better.

Once you can say which kind of decision you face and what is at its centre, book Ask Me a Question for a written insight on that one choice, or write to us through the enquiry form if you would like help deciding which reading suits it.
